Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 Director Christopher McQuarrie praised Abu Dhabi’Local production crew and authorities are featured in a behind-the-scenes video.
This video was shared by Abu Dhabi Film Commissionshowing off some of the incredible stunts star Tom Cruise is known for.
McQuarrie revealed that the stunt in the trailer isn’t even the biggest or most complex stunt they’ve filmed.
In the video, he explains that they were inspired to create a desert scene when they were filming in Abu Dhabi.
They shot in what production manager Ben Piltz described as “an open field,” with “amazing sand dunes” and “great salt flats,” perfect for a series of charging horses.
McQuarrie said: “Once we decided we were going to shoot the airport scenes in Abu Dhabi, we decided to also shoot the desert scenes.
“The desert scene is something Tom and I have always dreamed about. The location just tells us what to do.
“These things we’re doing, while looking pretty easy, are actually very complex and involve a lot of skill from Tom. It’s literally the biggest scene we’ve ever done.”
The team built a set for the scene where Cruise’s Ethan Hunt evades the authorities, inside and on the roof of the airport.
McQuarrie added: “The Etihad and Abu Dhabi airports provided us with the opportunity to film a series of scenes in a way never before possible. It’s an extraordinary and beautiful location. It’s epic in scale ish.”
