EVERITT, July 6 (AP) — The company that owns a submersible that fatally imploded while exploring the wreck of the Titanic said Thursday it has suspended operations.

OceanGate, based in Everett, Wash., owns the Titan submersible, which is believed to have imploded on June 18 while landing in the North Atlantic. The implosion killed all five people on board, including submersible pilot Stockton Rush and the company’s CEO.

“All exploration and commercial operations have been suspended,” the company’s website said on Thursday.

The Coast Guard is investigating the implosion.

OceanGate is headquartered in the United States, while OceanGate Expeditions, the related company that led the Titanic’s dive into the Titanic, is registered in the Bahamas. The Coast Guard said the Titan submersible itself “is not a U.S.-flagged vessel and has never been certified or certified by the U.S. Coast Guard.” (Associated Press)
