SAN DIEGO, July 10 (AP) A Marine who was found running away from home by her grandmother in San Diego two weeks ago was found last month in a barracks at a California Marine Corps base. The team members were detained and are being questioned, officials said Monday.

Captain Charles Palmer of the 1st Marine Logistics Group at Camp Pendleton, about 40 miles (65 kilometers) north of San Diego, said the Marine had been released and federal law enforcement officials were on the way. Survey.

Palmer said it was unclear how the girl and the Marines came into contact before military police found the girl in the barracks during the daytime on June 28.

According to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department, her grandmother reported her missing on June 13, telling authorities she had left the home four days earlier. The grandmother told the officer who interviewed her that the girl had escaped before, but only briefly.

The sheriff’s department said the teen’s information had been entered into multiple missing persons databases, including the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Authorities returned the girl to her grandmother after they found her at the base, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Military officials said they could not disclose any other details, including the Marines’ ages or ranks. The case has been referred to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the federal agency responsible for investigating criminal cases in the Navy and Marine Corps.

NCIS spokesman Jeff Houston said no one has been arrested or charged in the case. The Marine was detained for questioning before being released back to command, he said. Sheriff’s Department and the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force are assisting with the investigation. (Associated Press)
