The deal expires on July 17 this month.

Last year, a grain deal between Ukraine and Russia, brokered by Turkey and the United Nations, allowed Ukrainian ships to export grain from Black Sea ports to the rest of the world.

According to Al Jazeera, Erdogan predicted that Putin would visit Turkey in August in a speech ahead of his trip to Vilnius for the NATO meeting.

In early May, Russia agreed to extend Ukraine’s Black Sea food deal for another two months, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced, The Moscow Times reported.

The announcement comes a day before a 60-day extension agreed in March is due to expire.

“Our Russian friends say they won’t interfere with Turkish ships leaving [Ukraine’s] port. We thank them for that. “The Moscow Times quoted Erdogan as saying.

In early March, Erdogan announced the extension of the Black Sea grain agreement. However, he did not disclose details about the expiration date of the deal at the time.

The deal, brokered by the United Nations and Turkey last July, aims to ensure safe passage of ships carrying Ukrainian grain exports, especially amid global food shortages caused by the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. (Arnie)
