Panel Reviews Preparations for UAE’s FNC Elections

The National Elections Committee (NEC) convened its fourth meeting at the Presidential Court’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, with Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais presiding as the Minister of State for Federal National Council (FNC) Affairs and Chairman of the NEC.

During the meeting, the NEC approved the minutes of its third meeting and reviewed the final list of candidates for the 2023 FNC membership. This list is set to be officially announced on September 2, in accordance with the electoral schedule.

The committee also discussed campaign regulations for candidates, which will commence on September 11 and run for 23 days. The committee emphasized the importance of adhering to campaign guidelines and complying with the electoral executive’s instructions.

Additionally, the NEC assessed the readiness of electoral centers and the digital infrastructure of the voting system, known as the “Hybrid Voting System,” which combines electronic and remote online voting through approved digital applications. This system allows voters to exercise their rights during the early voting period from October 4 to 6 and on the primary voting day on October 7.

Al Owais commended the sense of national responsibility demonstrated by members of electoral entities who submitted their candidacy applications for the 2023 FNC membership. He also praised the streamlined procedures during the candidacy registration process and the efforts of the emirates’ committees in providing facilities and technologies to enhance the experience for members of electoral entities.

“The 2023 FNC elections will contribute to advancing parliamentary life in the UAE. The diversity of the electoral entities across the emirates, representing various segments of society, will undoubtedly impact the council’s role, enabling it to support, guide, and endorse government initiatives,” Al Owais .
