Abu Dhabi Speed Limits 80km/h on October 7 as Dense Fog Hits Roads

Abu Dhabi Speed Limits Cuts to 80km/h as Dense Fog Hits Key Roads

Abu Dhabi Police reduced speed limits to 80km/h on Wednesday morning, October 7, 2026, after dense fog caused poor visibility across parts of the emirate.

The temporary speed restriction affected several major roads during the morning commute. Motorists received mobile alerts advising them to follow the reduced limit and drive carefully.

The 80km/h limit applied to stretches of E11, Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road. It also covered Sheikh Salem bint Buti Road and Ahmed Khamis Al-Hamli Road.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued weather alerts as fog and mist affected several areas. A red alert warned of visibility dropping below 1km in parts of Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates. The warnings were scheduled to remain in place until 9am on Wednesday.

Drivers were urged to maintain a safe distance, avoid sudden lane changes and follow electronic road signs. Abu Dhabi Police uses temporary speed limits during poor weather, including fog, heavy rain and sandstorms.

The temporary 80km/h system has been used in Abu Dhabi since 2019. Authorities display the reduced limits on electronic signs and also send alerts to motorists.

The NCM expects further fog and mist in coastal and internal areas over the coming days, meaning drivers may face similar conditions during upcoming morning commutes.
