New Terminal at Abu Dhabi Airport Set to Open for Public Use on November 1

Abu Dhabi International Airport is gearing up to launch its new terminal, Terminal A, on November 1. Airlines will be transitioning to this state-of-the-art facility in three phases over two weeks, commencing operations on different dates throughout November. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and 15 other international airlines are set to kick off operations at the new terminal on November 1, offering a more efficient and advanced travel experience. Etihad Airways will also gradually move its flights to Terminal A from November 9, with a complete shift to the new terminal by November 14, along with Air Arabia Abu Dhabi and several other airlines. This transition is a significant move that is poised to significantly increase the airport’s passenger and cargo handling capacity.

Elevating Abu Dhabi’s Role as a Global Hub

The new Terminal A represents a major advancement for Abu Dhabi International Airport, effectively doubling its current capacity and transforming it into a more dynamic global business and tourism hub. With flights connecting to 117 destinations around the world, it will enhance both the frequency and reach of flights to and from Abu Dhabi. The terminal covers an extensive area of 742,000 square meters, making it one of the world’s largest airport terminals. The facility is designed to significantly expand the airport’s capacity for passengers and cargo, underpinning Abu Dhabi’s focus on diversifying its economy beyond oil.

Efficiency and Sustainability

Terminal A is designed to offer passengers an efficient and seamless experience from the curb to the gate. It will feature cutting-edge biometric touchpoints, self-service baggage drops, and advanced baggage handling systems. These technological enhancements are set to reduce wait times and streamline the passenger journey, making it smoother and more enjoyable. Furthermore, Terminal A will employ facial recognition technology for passenger screening and utilize eco-friendly practices to conserve resources, such as a 45% reduction in water consumption and solar power generation with over 7,500 solar panels.

A Destination Within Itself

addition to its efficiency and functionality, Terminal A will provide a unique destination for travelers, offering a shopping area spanning 35,000 square meters. This space will host 163 retail stores and food and beverage outlets, providing travelers with a wide range of options for shopping and dining. Luxury brands like Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Ferragamo will have a presence in the terminal. The airport will also house the world’s first Muji airport store and two health and beauty spas. Travelers can enjoy added comfort and convenience with a 138-room hotel and an open-air lounge.

A Step Toward Sustainable Aviation

Terminal A places a significant emphasis on sustainability, with initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency. More than 7,500 solar panels generate power at a three-megawatt plant, resulting in annual savings of 5,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Additionally, the terminal boasts an advanced surface movement control system, unique in the Middle East, ensuring safe landings even during low-visibility weather conditions. This combination of technological innovation, sustainability, and passenger-centric features makes Terminal A a vital addition to Abu Dhabi International Airport, ready to serve as a critical gateway for global travel and commerce.
