Trucks Face Fines of Up to Dh5,000 for Failure to Register in Electronic Tracking System in the UAE

The deadline for UAE transport companies to register in the Electronic National System for Tracking Trucks and Shipments concluded on October 30, with fines for violations set to be enforced starting from November 1.

Ensuring Compliance with Prescribed Routes

The system mandates that tracking devices are installed on transit trucks using ports and land borders to monitor their adherence to the specified routes. Once the trucks reach the port or exit the land border, the tracking devices are removed.

This initiative is part of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security’s (ICP) strategy to oversee the movement of trucks and shipments, ensuring their timely and secure delivery while monitoring and addressing any violations or irregularities. It encompasses all transit trucks carrying hazardous materials, restricted goods, and items subject to high customs duties.

This tracking technology was showcased by the ICP at the recent Gitex Global, the world’s largest technology exhibition held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Immediate Responses to Deviations: Dh

An ICP spokesperson, during Gitex at the pavilion, explained that if a truck driver ventures into restricted areas, the operation center informs them of their incorrect route and instructs them to alter it. In case of a road accident, the driver is contacted, and the truck is halted at the scene.

Since attaching tracking devices to trucks is mandatory, those who fail to comply will face penalties.

An official at the ICP pavilion at Gitex Global disclosed that the fines would be enforced from November 1. As per the ICP’s earlier statement, the initial penalty for non-compliance is Dh1,000, followed by Dh100 for each subsequent month, with a maximum total fine of Dh5,000.

Online Registration Process

To register in the system, the license holder or their legal representative must apply online and provide the necessary documents, including the vehicle license, company activity information, truck plate number, and more. Subsequently, an appointment must be scheduled to install the tracking devices on the truck, ensuring it is integrated into the tracking and monitoring system adopted by the UAE.
