UAE; Orange Alert Issued, Severe Storms Trigger Wadi Overflow and Heavy Rains

UAE: Heavy rains have caused widespread disruption across various parts.

Leading to the overflow of wadis and the issuance of an orange alert for thunderstorms. This rare weather event has prompted authorities to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety and minimize potential damage.
The downpour began early in the morning, with meteorologists predicting that the rain would continue throughout the day. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) reported that several regions, including Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and parts of Sharjah, experienced intense rainfall, resulting in the rapid rise of water levels in wadis and low-lying areas. The NCM issued an orange alert, indicating a high probability of severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to stay indoors and avoid venturing out unless absolutely necessary. The  UAE authorities have emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines, such as avoiding flooded areas and not attempting to cross overflowing wadis. Emergency services are on high alert, ready to respond to any incidents arising from the adverse weather conditions.
The heavy rains have caused significant disruptions to daily life, with several roads and highways becoming impassable due to flooding. Commuters faced long delays as traffic came to a standstill in many parts of the affected regions. Public transportation services were also impacted, with some routes being temporarily suspended or diverted to ensure the safety of passengers.
In addition to the UAE transportation woes, the heavy rains have also affected several schools and businesses. Many educational institutions in the impacted areas have announced closures for the day, urging parents to keep their children at home. Businesses, particularly those in flood-prone areas, have also been advised to take precautionary measures to protect their properties and ensure the safety of their employees.
The UAE’s civil defense teams have been actively working to manage the situation. They have been deployed to monitor flood-prone areas, assist in evacuations if necessary, and provide support to residents affected by the flooding. The authorities have set up emergency shelters for those displaced by the floods and are providing necessary supplies such as food, water, and medical assistance.
In Fujairah, one of the hardest-hit areas, the local government has initiated a coordinated response effort, involving multiple agencies to address the impact of the heavy rains. Crews have been dispatched to clear blocked roads, drain flooded areas, and assist residents in need. The authorities are also conducting regular inspections of critical infrastructure, such as bridges and dams, to ensure their integrity and prevent further incidents.
The UAE weather forecast indicates that the rain is expected to continue over the next 24 hours, with varying intensities across different regions. The NCM has urged residents to stay updated with the latest weather reports and heed any further warnings or advisories issued by the authorities. Social media platforms and local news outlets are being utilized to disseminate real-time information and keep the public informed about the evolving situation.
While heavy rains are a rare occurrence in the UAE, the country has experienced similar weather events in the past. These events have highlighted the need for robust infrastructure and preparedness to handle extreme weather conditions. The government has been investing in upgrading drainage systems, constructing dams, and implementing other flood prevention measures to mitigate the impact of such events.
As the UAE braces for more rain, the focus remains on safeguarding lives and property. The authorities are urging everyone to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols to minimize risks. The collective efforts of the community, along with the prompt response from emergency services, will be key in navigating through this challenging weather event.
