Ancient Tomb Al Ain Discovery Reveals Bronze Age Burial Site

Ancient Tomb Al Ain Uncovered in Historic Necropolis

Archaeologists in Abu Dhabi have just added a new chapter to the UAE’s ancient story. The ancient tomb Al Ain researchers found sits inside the Pre-Islamic Qattarah Necropolis, and dates back roughly 3,300 to 4,000 years, to the Wadi Suq era and the Late Bronze Age.

The Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi made the discovery as part of ongoing excavation work in Al Ain Region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site long known for its rich archaeological finds.

The tomb chamber measures around 11 by 2.5 metres and appears to have served as a shared burial site for a community rather than a single individual, a detail that tells archaeologists a lot about how people lived, and honoured their dead, thousands of years ago.

Officials say the find deepens understanding of how ancient communities in the Arabian Peninsula lived and adapted over time.

Artefacts recovered from the site are expected to eventually go on public display in Abu Dhabi‘s museums, giving residents and visitors a rare, tangible link to the region’s earliest history.
