Pakistan E-Passport UAE Rollout Begins July 20

Pakistan E-Passport UAE: What You Need to Know

Big update for the Pakistani community living in the UAE. Starting Monday, the Pakistan e-passport UAE rollout officially kicks in, changing how passport applications are processed.

The Pakistani Embassy in Abu Dhabi confirmed that from July 20, 2026, all new passport applications at the Embassy and the Consulate General in Dubai will only be accepted in the e-passport category. This move brings Pakistan in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.

If you’re wondering whether your current passport is suddenly invalid, don’t worry. Machine-readable passports already in circulation will remain valid until their normal expiry date. You’ll simply receive an e-passport automatically the next time you renew.

E-passports come with an embedded chip that stores your biometric details, making travel faster and more secure through e-gates worldwide.

With over 1.5 million Pakistani nationals calling the UAE home, this shift will affect a huge number of people. If your passport is close to expiring, it might be worth checking the new process before you head to the consulate.
