Abu Dhabi E20 Highway Expansion Targets Traffic Near the Airport
If you regularly drive through Khalifa City, some relief is on the way. The Abu Dhabi E20 highway expansion has officially launched, aiming to ease one of the capital’s busier traffic corridors.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport confirmed the project will widen the E20 from three lanes to five in each direction. That’s on top of 10.5 kilometres of new ramps and loops, four additional bridges, 1.5 kilometres of internal roads, and eight upgraded traffic light junctions.
The goal behind the Abu Dhabi E20 highway expansion is simple: make it easier and safer to get around Khalifa City while improving connections to Zayed International Airport, a route that’s only getting busier as the capital grows.
While construction is underway, drivers in the area should expect some temporary disruption, so it’s worth allowing extra travel time. Once finished, the wider highway should mean smoother, faster journeys for residents, commuters, and travellers heading to and from the airport.
