US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet in Washington this week as the two countries seek to manage major trade, technology and security disputes.
The Trump Xi Jinping summit is scheduled for September 24. Xi will make a state visit to the United States from September 23 to 25, according to China’s Foreign Ministry. It will be his first state visit to Washington since 2015 and his second face-to-face meeting with Trump this year.
Trade is expected to be one of the main issues. Both countries have been operating under a trade truce that is due to expire in November. Officials are discussing whether the arrangement can be extended and how disagreements over tariffs and market access can be managed.
