More airlines are resuming international flights to and from China, with July likely to see the largest number of international flights since pandemic restrictions were imposed on international air travel in early 2020.

Air China said on Thursday it would resume several international routes to European and Asian cities. The airline’s resumed routes include round-trip routes from Beijing to Dubai.

Other Chinese airlines such as China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Xiamen Airlines have announced the resumption of international routes or increased frequencies.

China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines will launch 22 weekly international routes in July, including a route from Shanghai to New York, according to China Eastern’s WeChat account on Thursday.

Hainan Airlines is expected to add routes such as Beijing-Moscow and Beijing-Tokyo.

Overseas airlines are also busy mapping flights.

Japan’s All Nippon Airways said it will resume flights from Beijing to Tokyo from July 11. It was the airline’s first flight to Beijing after being grounded for more than two years. The flight is scheduled to fly every Monday.

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has resumed passenger flights between Abu Dhabi and Beijing after a plane landed in Beijing on Thursday. This is the first non-stop passenger flight from Abu Dhabi to Beijing since 23 March 2020.

The airline said people on board included Emirati diplomats, employees of Chinese companies investing in the UAE, business travelers and students.

Following the inaugural flight, weekly scheduled service will begin on July 6 with Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a news conference on Thursday that it is also a positive development that flights will gradually increase as the domestic epidemic improves, adding that China has been updating and adjusting relevant policies. According to the epidemic prevention situation.

Data sent to the Global Times by industry information provider VariFlight showed that 748 inbound passenger flights landed in China from June 1 to 27, an average of about 28 flights per day. The average daily flight volume increased by 17% month-on-month, and the top three airports were Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiamen.

Market watchers predict that more flights will resume in the coming days as China negotiates with more countries to lift travel restrictions imposed over the past two years.

Meanwhile, China adjusted its COVID-19 prevention manual, shortening the quarantine period for close contacts and international arrivals from 14 days to seven days, which also gave the market more confidence.

Li Guoqiang, vice president of Emirates China, told the Global Times that the gradual relaxation of the epidemic prevention policy can promote tourism, as well as economic, trade and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world.
