[ad_1]

Experts predict that the Breach-3rd cybersecurity and biometrics forum in Qatar, ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Doha, Qatar, will shed light on growing cyber threats in the Middle East. Hackers will try to steal the personal data of people heading to watch World Cup football matches.

According to a recent report by IBM, based on more than 500 real-world data breaches in 17 countries and 17 different industries, including the Middle East, over the past year.

“The Supreme Council for Delivery and Legacy has published a cybersecurity framework ahead of World Cup preparations, setting the benchmarks needed for all parties involved in the implementation of major sporting events. The framework sets out cybersecurity requirements to protect countries supporting the FIFA World Cup critical infrastructure and make Qatar National Vision 2030 a long-term commitment,” said a recent statement.

digital initiatives

Qatar has seen a major acceleration in digital transformation thanks to government initiatives such as Qatar National Vision 2030. The country is adopting several digital initiatives such as the Qatar Digital ID to facilitate citizen convenience.

Furthermore, the deployment of biometrics and cybersecurity solutions in government offices, airports and several key organizations speaks volumes about the country’s efforts to reduce cyber threats.

According to IBM research, the Middle East has the second highest average breach cost of the 17 regions studied. A study of organizations surveyed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and the United Arab Emirates shows that security incidents have become more expensive and difficult to control due to dramatic changes in operations during the pandemic.

financial impact

“The financial impact of these security incidents on the Middle East rose 6 percent over the past year and reached the highest cost in the region’s eight-year history of the report,” IBM said in the report. “These data breaches cost companies studied in the region an average of $6.93 million per breach, higher than the global average of $4.24 million per incident.”

Another industry report shows that the Middle East cybersecurity market size is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.1% from $20.3 billion in 2022 to $44.7 billion in 2027. The increasing sophistication of cyber-attacks in heavy industry due to digitization will result in financial and reputational damage and require strict government regulation.

In response to growing data breaches and cyberattacks, Dubai-based innovative event management organization Cogent Solutions Event Management (CS Events) has launched a series of cybersecurity campaigns – Breach – aimed at raising awareness of threats and helping businesses take action Precaution.

New findings suggest that security may be lagging behind these rapid IT changes, hindering an organization’s ability to respond to data breaches.

The annual Cost of Data Breach report, conducted by the Ponemon Institute and sponsored and analyzed by IBM Security, identified the energy sector, financial services and healthcare as the three industries with the highest data breach costs in the Middle East.

The study also found that companies surveyed in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates lost an average of $194 per data breach per lost or stolen record. While phishing attacks were the most common root cause of breaches targeting organizations in the region, it was followed by stolen user credentials such as names, emails and passwords.
