Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley has sold his catalog of published and recorded music.
According to Billboard, the 42-year-old musician has struck a deal with equity fund HarbourView Equity Partners, founded by CEO Cherrese Clarke Soares in 2021, to sell his music portfolio.
Deryck has recorded seven albums with Sum 41, selling more than 15 million copies, and he has also served as a producer.
Details of the sale were not disclosed.
HarbourView has also acquired music collections from Hollywood Undead, Brad Paisley, Lady A, and more.
Sum 41 released the album Order In Decline in 2019 and is working on the double album Heaven and Hell.
Lead guitarist Dave Baksh previously told Gigwise: “We’re actually working on a brand new album because we have a lot of time and the songs have just been collected, collected and collected. It’s actually going to be a double record called ‘Heaven and Hell’ ‘.”
Backing vocals Jason McCaslin said: “So, the heaven side is more of the pop-punk style of our past, with a new twist, and the hell side is going to be very, very heavy.”
Dave added: “So basically…we’re going to put out a double record that spans the entire genre-bending theme. We’re all part of that generation, instead of having the exact same record, we do whatever we want!”
Jason said: “We’re also a weird band in the sense that we also did poppy songs, and then we also like thrash metal. In a sense, we have a weird fan base: some kids just like poppies stuff, some kids kids just love heavy stuff, some of them love it all. So, this new album is going to bring them together! So hopefully we can’t have any of our fans say ‘wow, I don’t Love the ‘poppy stuff’. Like, just listen to the B-side!
