Family night. There will be basketball games, bouncing houses, hot dogs, chips and a popcorn movie. The event begins at 6 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran, 421 S. Peoria Ave., Dixon.
Fire Celebration. The Stirling Fire Department will commemorate its 150th anniversary with cakes, cookies, demonstrations, games and educational materials at the station at 110 West Fifth Street in Stirling on Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.
Be free and uninhibited. The Rock Falls Youth Center Dance will be held at the Rock Falls Community Building on Saturday at 7pm. The DJ will play teen’s favorite hits. For students in grades 6-8. The fee is $3. For more information, call the Coloma Park District at 815-625-0272.
Grant’s right-hand man. Professor Allen J. Ottens of Northern Illinois University will host a program at the Lincoln Learning Centre (611 E. Third St. in Sterling) on Sunday at 2 p.m. on President Ulysses Grant and Secretary of War John Eight-year relationship between John Rawlins. .
Celebrate farm culture. Farm and Barn, an exhibition celebrating depictions in any artistic medium, from painting to sculpture, will open Saturday and will be on view at the next photo exhibition at 113 West First Street, Dixon, on October 22. The exhibit showcases original artwork exploring ancient buildings, open pastures, farm implements, livestock, creeks and streams. The opening reception will take place on September 16th at 6pm, and contestants will be judged by marketing professionals Jayne Rose and live music from the Wellstrung Band.
Hi, so handsome’. Christopher Wren plays Hank Wren in “Hank Williams: The Lost Highway,” directed by “Love Boat” actor Ted Lange williams. The show kicks off on Thursday and takes place at the Mount Carroll Theater on September 18. Lange will take part in an audience Q&A after the show on Friday. A Page to Stage dialogue for this production will take place on September 16th. Tickets are $35. The 7:30 shows are September 8-10, 13-17 and the 2pm shows are September 10, 11, 14 and 18.
Run (pass) the mill event. The Grist Mill Grind 10K and Fun Walk will be held at Franklin Creek State Natural Area on Saturday at 8am. Proceeds from this event will go to the Franklin Creek Conservancy for park planning, expansion and improvement.
on the go. A celebration of planes, trains and cars: a century of movement will take place at Rochelle Municipal Airport on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm. Attractions include: Poplar Grove’s Jenny plane, cars from every decade of the past 100 years, train demonstrations, Burlington Railroad model train cabs, aerial tram adventure stunts, skydiving and whisky tastings. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for children.
our way. A demonstration of the historic trade will be held Saturday at the Sawmill Museum in Clinton, Iowa, from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Demonstrations include Medd Metalworks for blacksmithing, Quad City Woodturners for lathes and the Alt family for rope manufacturing.
