ISLAMABAD – Hundreds of volunteers from across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) came together to help flood victims in Pakistan and participated in a “We Stand Together” event organized to collect and pack disaster relief kits.
Volunteers of all ages and nationalities from all seven emirates of the UAE gathered on Friday for the We Stand Together campaign at three locations, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), Dubai Expo City and Sharjah Expo Centre. Volunteers spent four hours preparing 1,200 tons of food into 30,000 food packets and health and general hygiene items.
The We Stand Together initiative was launched by the Emirates Red Crescent Society (ERC), Dubai Cares and Sharjah International Charities in close collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Community Development (MoCD) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) in support of nine other UAE humanitarian organisations , including Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity, Big Heart Foundation, Dar Al Ber, Humanitarian International Islamic City, Emirates Water Aid Foundation (Suchya, UAE), Sharjah Charity House, International Charity Organisation and Emirates Charity Association.
As part of the initiative, volunteers were divided into groups to support the packaging of two types of rescue kits, food supplies and hygiene kits. The food supply includes non-perishable items such as flour, rice, lentils, oil, etc. Hygiene kits contain essential toiletries for women and children such as diapers, pads and soap.
