With Abu Dhabi arts event, UAE celebrates status as ‘global cultural hub’

[ad_1]

The 2022 Cultural Summit will unite leading cultural figures from around the world in a country that prides itself on a cosmopolitan population and strong investment in the arts

The United Arab Emirates will host its fifth Cultural Summit next week in Abu Dhabi, celebrating its cosmopolitan population and aiming to highlight its status as a global cultural hub.

The three-day event, which began on October 23, aims to bring together cultural leaders from around the world under the banner of “Living Culture”.

According to the summit website, the event will include “policy makers, researchers, artists and cultural professionals” who will “study pressing contemporary issues, including the impact of digital media and artificial intelligence, creative ecosystems and indigenous practices, representation and topographical public spaces.”

According to the Global Media Insight website, by 2021, the UAE has a population of 9.99 million, including 8.84 million expatriates, just under 90% of the population, while the UAE and UAE nationals account for only 1.15 million.

The UAE has long invested in international culture, and its capital is home to the largest art museum in the Arabian Peninsula, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and the summit includes visits to the museum. It also houses the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum of Contemporary Art, an affiliate of the original museum in New York.

The UAE is indeed a global cultural hub, John Berger, head of executive education at the United Arab Emirates University’s School of Business and Economics, told MediaLine, partly due to its large and diverse expatriate population.

The UAE is a global cultural hub, Mohammed Baharoon, director-general of B’huth, Dubai’s center for public policy research, told the media hotline Due to its “population inclusivity” and “the country’s emphasis on combining cultural values of different religious and cultural backgrounds”.

In fact, Bajarons Said that the UAE has had a “cultural sector” since it had a government.

The upcoming summit, he said, “is also a means for us to reduce the polarization of our identities” and create a more harmonious society.

Burger also noted that the UAE places great emphasis on the inclusion of different cultures.

“Next to a Christian church in Abu Dhabi, there is a mosque – the Mosque of the Virgin Mary,” he said, adding that it was part of the UAE’s policy to promote inclusion.

He said that many cultures are represented in the fields of sports, food, music and art, noting that the UAE does this without losing its unique Emirati culture.

“The fact that so many people from the rest of the world are flocking to the UAE and trying to stay here as long as possible shows that they are comfortable living here,” he said. “If the culture doesn’t accept differences, people use their feet. Vote and leave the country.”

Apart from being very important to the UAE, the summit has also brought benefits to the individual attendees and the country as a whole.

Andrea Dempster Chung, co-founder and executive director of Kingston Creative, Jamaica, and speaker at this year’s summit, told the media hotline The event provided a “great opportunity” to share challenges and successes, network with experts and forge new partnerships.

“This event provides an opportunity for Jamaican creatives to collaborate globally,” she said.

Dempster Chung takes it very seriously She attended the summit and said that in Jamaica, “the cultural and creative ecosystem is vital to the lives of individual creatives and the development of the country.”

As a small country where culture is one of the fastest growing industries, developing a “healthy creative ecosystem is crucial”, she said.

Dempster Chung Said “a healthy cultural ecosystem is essential” as a source of income for the country. She cited Jamaican cities such as Kingston, which she said “have an abundance of talent and therefore have the potential to translate that talent into jobs, sustainable growth and social development of the community.”

Dempster Chung I believe the greatest summit’s strongest asset is the meeting of different creative minds from all over the globe in one place.

“The power of the Abu Dhabi Cultural Summit is its ability to bring together so many outstanding cultural experts from around the world,” she said.
