Dewa expects number of high-voltage transmission substations to increase in first half

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) saw a significant 22% increase in the number of new transmission substations and investment allocated to transmission substations in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year.

From the beginning of this year until June 2022, Dewa commissioned a new 400 kV transmission substation and 10 new 132 kV transmission substations at an investment of AED1.7 billion (US$462.7 million).

This brings the total number of 400 kV transmission substations in Dubai to 26 and the total number of 132 kV transmission substations to 329.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive officer, said the total value of Dewa’s investments in transmission projects between 2021 and 2024 increased to AED10 billion. This includes AED 2 billion for 400 kV transmission projects and AED 8 billion for 132 kV projects.

Al Tayer said: “Dewa’s growth plan is in line with the Dubai City Master Plan 2040, Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emission Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of Dubai’s total electricity generation from clean energy by 2050.”

He added that Dewa employs the latest disruptive and fourth industrial revolution technologies, smart technologies and innovative practices in all of its services and operational processes, helping to achieve 100% reliability and availability of Dubai’s energy transmission system.

Hussain Lootah, Executive Vice President, Transmission, Dewa said: “The commissioning of transmission substations to the highest standards of quality, efficiency and safety in accordance with the latest transmission substation digital technology reinforces Dewa’s drive to drive digital transformation. All its services and operations .”

“The 400/132 kV substations are located in Al Barsha South, Jebel Ali, Al Furjan, Al Merkad, Business Bay, Umm Hurair, Wadi Al Safa and Oud,” he said Al Muteena, Al Riqqa and Al Wasl,” he added.arab trade news agency
