A daymaker is someone who does good deeds to make the world a better place. No wonder the latest Warren Miller movie is called “Daymaker.”
The iconic skier/director has created countless films focused on his passion for skiing, and his purpose is to promote it.
Daymaker is Warren Miller Entertainment’s 73rd annual ski and snowboard film. Miller, who died in 2018 at the age of 93, wants his films to continue.
“We’re still making sure that the Warren Miller movies can continue to stream,” professional skier and content creator Marcus Caston said by phone from his home in Salt Lake City. “It’s an honor to be part of the Warren Miller project.”
“Daymaker,” which will screen at the Bing Crosby Theater on Saturday, is Caston’s ninth Miller film. Caston, 34, appeared on an entertainment show at the Snow Basin Resort in Huntsville, Utah. Caston and one of his ski heroes, Jonny Moseley, surprised 17-year-old young skier Tyler Blocker by winning a race with his favorite skier batting game.
“We surprised him and took him out skiing,” Caston said. “It was a thrill for both Tyler and me because Jonny Mosley was one of my all-time favorite skiers. I think Tyler learned a lot and looked good in the movie. He brings a lot of energy to the screen.”
The same was the case with Michelle Parker and McKenna Peterson, who skied in the stunning Olympus Mountains on the Greek island of Crete, which is not known for its ski resorts. A deadly storm was caught in Monashees, British Columbia. There’s also some cool Alaskan footage, including Daron Rahlves, Ryland Bell, and Cam FitzPatrick.

“I think there’s something for anyone who loves skiing or is curious about skiing,” Caston said. “We all love skiing and I think people can see that in the movies.
“I am passionate about what I do. Skiing is my life.”
Caston wasn’t able to premiere in Spokane, and he was disappointed because he enjoyed living in South Hills six years ago when he adjusted his skis at the Spokane Alpine House.
“I love being in Spokane,” Caston said. “I am very happy living in Nanshan.
“There’s a lot to do by bike and hike. I’ve never skied Spokane, but Schweitzer is great. I used to race there. I remember how good the snow was.”
Caston can’t wait for snow and ski season. “You know, when you get to the end of October, all the fun starts pretty quickly,” Caston said. “Hopefully ‘Daymaker’ gets people excited about the new season. Warren Miller is all about cheering people up for the next ski season. Coming soon.”
