Israeli president and Indian prime minister to participate in Abu Dhabi space debate

Abu Dhabi, UAE: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the Abu Dhabi Space Debate will host the world with Israeli President Isaac Herzog Representatives of the fast-growing aerospace industry and Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, at the inauguration ceremony in Abu Dhabi from 5-6 December.

Organised by the UAE Space Agency, with the participation of the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Defence, the event aims to play a role in global cooperation in human exploration of space. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will deliver a video address to a gathering of global space agencies, government representatives and private sector leaders in space, avionics and defense technology.

Her Excellency Sarah Bint Yousef Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology and Chair of the UAE Space Agency and the Abu Dhabi Space Debate Committee, said: “The Abu Dhabi Space Debate aims to create a diverse and inclusive discourse that will drive the global space sector concrete progress in international cooperation, standards and policy development. At a time when the world is facing unprecedented challenges, the platform plays a vital role in building consensus, cooperation and development in this important area.”

“As we approach the debate, representing the world’s emerging space nations as well as traditional players has been an important goal for us,” Al Amiri said. “To that end, we are delighted to have representatives from Romania, Rwanda, Norway, the Philippines and Portugal, as well as pioneers in the private sector from around the world, join. Some of the most exciting developments in the field are now coming from these young players who are driving the global Expanded need for access to space.”

Speakers at the debate include strategists such as Dr. George Friedman, founder of Geopolitical Futures; Dr. Robin Geiss, Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research; and William Alberque, Director of Strategy, Technology and Arms Control at the International Institute for Strategic Studies ) will be joined by some 250 space agency and space sector leaders from more than 30 countries including Saudi Arabia, the United States, India, the United Kingdom, South Korea, France and Japan.

Additionally, the event will witness the participation of private sector companies including Airbus, Northrop Grumman, Thales and Amazon, as well as lawmakers, academics and researchers whose work defines The future of space. Moderated by moderators such as the BBC’s Stephen Sackur, the debate aims to spark an open, comprehensive and candid exchange and seek solutions and concrete developments for the industry.

The session will discuss issues ranging from the geopolitical implications of space exploration to regulation and the respective roles the public and private sectors will play in the future, given political turmoil affecting the stability and safety of space assets in the industry and developing national science and technology programs. The rise of mega-constellations, the weaponization of space assets, sustainability, and the role of space systems in defense and intelligence gathering all form part of an integrated platform that holds the keys to the future development of the global space sector.

The Abu Dhabi Space Debate aims to provide a platform for space sector leaders and policymakers around the world to examine the opportunities and challenges facing the sector, with the aim of promoting global dialogue and cooperation among nations and building concrete alliances , multilateral agreements, and provide a platform to drive the development of the entire industry.
