Views of the authorities shutting down the market.
Today’s Bay, our reporter
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has closed the “JAFCO Supermarket” in Abu Dhabi for breaching Law No. 2 of 2008 on Food Safety in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the legislation enacted thereunder.
ADAFSA’s Food Control Division said the administrative closure was due to repeated high-risk violations and the facility’s failure to comply with food safety requirements.
Inspectors reportedly monitored the facility for insect outbreaks, lack of cleanliness in refrigerators, floors, food and vegetable and fruit display areas, as well as improper storage of meat and found meat sold in very poor condition, among other violations.
Despite continuous inspections of the facility, observations regarding food health and safety requirements have not been corrected. ADAFSA said the facility received four final warnings of fines and administrative closures, but failed to correct its conditions.
ADAFSA added that the administrative closure order will remain in effect until the violations are corrected and the facility meets all necessary requirements to ensure food health and safety.
