Greta Gerwig interested in directing Netflix’s The Chronicles of Narnia.
The streaming giant wants to start the franchise with two movies, and wants Greta to helm both.
Netflix announced a multi-year deal with The CS Lewis Company in 2018 that will see them produce a TV series and movie based on the beloved book.
A year later, the streamer announced that Matthew Alrich had joined the series as a “creative architect” to oversee all future development. He is best known for his work at Disney Pixar and co-wrote the film Coco.
Netflix has not commented on the Gerwig rumors, but the filmmaker has already produced films such as “Lady Bird,” “Little Women,” and the upcoming “Barbie.”
The movie will star Margot Robbie, who explained that she didn’t want to make an “obvious” movie about Mattel dolls.
The 32-year-old star told the new issue of Vanity Fair: “Making an obvious Barbie movie would have been very easy to do, and anything that was easy probably wasn’t worth doing…
“People have strong feelings. I’d rather that than apathy. Now, let me subvert your expectations. It’s scarier, but it’s also a good place to start.”
Greta revealed that she was amazed by Margot’s acting ability.
The 39-year-old director said: “At one point, I wanted to capture Margot in slow motion but have everything else move fast, so I went up to her and said, ‘Can you move at 48 frames per second? , even if we’re shooting at 24 frames per second, and everyone else will be moving at normal speed?
“She’s doing some calculations behind her eyes, and she’s fucking doing it. She does move at a higher frame rate. I don’t know of a category other than magic.”
