Balenciaga’s creative designer has personally apologized for being criticized by Kim Kardashian for making “wrong artistic choices” at a recent fashion campaign.

Demna Gvasalia said that while he sometimes wanted to “provoke thoughts” with his work, he would never do so with the subject of child abuse.

Images from the campaign show two young girls, both holding plush teddy bears in bondage outfits, surrounded by an assortment of other items.

The ads have sparked an online backlash, including from the 42-year-old reality star, who said she was “shocked by the disturbing images”.

Kardashian later said she was “re-evaluating my relationship with the brand” after the incident.

In an online message, Demna wrote: “I personally want to apologize for the wrong artistic conception of the kids’ gift campaign and I accept my responsibility.

“It is inappropriate for children to promote items that are not relevant to them.

“As tempted as I am at times to provoke thought through my writing, I would never intend to do so with such a dire subject as the child abuse I condemn. Period.”

The Georgian fashion designer added that he will be working with child protection organizations to learn how to “contribute and help with this dire subject”.

“I apologize to anyone who was visually offended, and Balenciaga assures that appropriate steps will be taken not only to avoid similar mistakes in the future, but to do our part in our responsibility to protect the welfare of children,” he wrote.

In her own previous post, Kardashian said she had remained silent in the days since the campaign was first published online because she wanted to speak to the brand to “see for myself how it all happened.” .

“I’ve been quiet the past few days, not because I’m not disgusted and angry about the recent Balenciaga ad campaign, but because I wanted the opportunity to talk to their team and let myself understand how it all happened,” she said. Say and write on the Internet.

“As a mother of four, I am devastated by these disturbing images.

“Children’s safety must be taken very seriously and any attempt to normalize child abuse of any kind has no place in our society – and that is it.”

She continued: “I thank Balenciaga for canceling the campaign and for apologizing.

“In speaking with them, I am confident that they understand the magnitude of the problem and will take the necessary steps so that this does not happen again.”
