ABU DHABI, 7th December, 2022 (WAM) — New York University Abu Dhabi, NYUAD, in partnership with the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, MBZUAI, launched the 2022 Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing on Wednesday (EMNLP) ) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).
Held in Abu Dhabi for the first time, the conference will run until December 11, 2022 and will see keynote speeches from leading figures in AI, including Meta’s Chief AI Research Scientist Mona Diab and Professor of Computer Science at George Washington University; Neil Cohn, an American cognitive scientist known for studying the structural and cognitive overlap between language and graphic communication, including cartoons and emojis; scientist, best-selling author, and serial entrepreneur Gary Marcus, author; and Nazneen Rajan, head of research at Hugging Face, a startup working to democratize machine learning.
Co-chairs of the local organizing committee include Nizar Habash, professor and computer science program leader at NYU, and Professor Eric Xing, president of MBZUAI.

Mona Diab will explore practical ideas around building a vision of responsible NLP with higher scientific standards, provide a call to action and invite various stakeholders to engage in multilateral dialogue on the issue. Cohn will give talks on multimodal language capabilities and the visual language of comics, while Marcus will delve into character models in artificial general intelligence (AGI) like GPT-3 and PaLM.
Nazneen Rajani will highlight the key takeaways from systematically researching, benchmarking, and evaluating NLP models on 75K models on Hugging Face.
EMNLP 2022 expects 2,500 people to attend online and offline sessions, including six tutorials and 24 workshops, including the 7th Workshop on Natural Language Processing in Arabic, the 13th International Workshop on Text Mining and Information Analysis for Health Conference, and the 4th Financial Technology and Natural Language Processing Symposium.
Additionally, EMNLP 2022 will have two sessions on machine translation and computational natural language learning.
