Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Ritz-Carlton, Abu Dhabi, The Grand Canal has announced a partnership with sustainability partner ElephantSkin to bring a new recyclable glove to its service areas.don’t confuse actual Elephant Skin, the ElephantSkin Glove is a three-layer cotton glove treated with antiviral and antimicrobial technology to effectively prevent cross-contamination.
In fact, the name is a reference to the concept of elephant memory. As elephants never forget, their memory is much more developed than that of humans. The same concept can be applied to the environment, which cannot or cannot forget the actions of humans on the planet; how any impact on the environment, whether negative or positive, will leave a lasting impact for decades to come.
The Ritz-Carlton, Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal, one of the few pilot hotels worldwide, has accepted an order for the first batch of 400 pairs of gloves. Noting the many benefits and high standards of delivery, this glove is comfortable and easy to use for the ladies and gentlemen of the Ritz Carlton, with breathable material for protection against viruses and bacteria, and a professional looking brand standard to match.
What’s more, they can be washed, reused and recycled within a few months. This effectively makes the use of plastic gloves an obsolete and discontinued practice.
The Ritz-Carlton, Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal has an ambition to become one of the leaders in sustainable development in the UAE and has quickly become a driving force behind several initiatives and events. The 500-plus-bedroom luxury hotel had implemented the measure in December across several departments, notably room service, laundry, housekeeping, engineering, kitchen, dining and health club.
The team will save 1.4 million pairs of service gloves each year, with products that can be laundered within a few months before being recycled back into the production process at their point of origin. This alone makes it a cost-effective solution and offers its service professionals a better practice alternative.
By January 2023, both ElephantSkin and The Ritz-Carlton, Abu Dhabi, Grand Canal plan to launch cooking gloves suitable for kitchen environments.
