Abu Dhabi Public Health Center launches UAE’s first mobile BSL-3 laboratory

ABU DHABI – The Abu Dhabi Public Health Center (ADPHC) has launched the UAE’s first mobile BSL-3 (Biosafety Level 3) laboratory in Abu Dhabi. Equipped to handle highly contagious disease pathogens (Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, Yellow Fever, etc.), the BSL-3 mobile laboratory will enhance the emirate’s infectious disease preparedness through rapid, safe and accurate testing of infectious diseases Work.

Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of ADPHC, said: “The launch of mobile BSL-3 (Biosafety Level 3) laboratories in the emirate will support our efforts to strengthen the capital’s preparedness to respond, contain and investigate infectious diseases and realize ADPHC’s vision of strengthening the health and safety of communities. Since its inception in 2019, under our wise leadership, ADPHC has had a positive impact on public health standards in Abu Dhabi and forged strategic partnerships to maintain the health and safety of the community.”

The mobile lab will be open at four locations in Abu Dhabi, including Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), Al Rahba Hospital, Tawam Hospital and Madinat Zayed Hospital. All laboratory technicians who will work in the laboratory and handle high-threat level pathogens have received intensive training from the manufacturer, as well as on-site safety training to operate safely in the laboratory. Additionally, the SKMC Biosafety and Quality team will oversee the biosafety and quality aspects.

Saeed Jaber Al Kuwaiti, Group CEO, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), said: “As leaders in healthcare, the responsibility to ensure public safety in times of infectious disease outbreaks falls on our shoulders. Mobile BSL launched by ADPHC The -3 laboratory is an important step in further strengthening the UAE’s preparedness for infectious diseases. In the event of an outbreak, the Abu Dhabi Reference Laboratory for Infectious Diseases (RLID-AD) (surveillance laboratory) will mobilize mobile laboratories to enhance the screening and diagnosis of infectious diseases in the emirate. The BSL-3 mobile laboratory has been designed in compliance with international best practices.
