Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey have starred in Tyler Perry’s “Six Eight Eight.”

Washington will also executive produce a Netflix film that tells the true story of the only all-black, all-female World War II battalion that proved critical to the U.S. war effort.

“Six Three Eight” tells the story of 855 women who fought in the war with little knowledge of their daunting task of sorting and repairing a three-year backlog of undelivered mail.

Facing discrimination, unfamiliar lands and war-torn countries, they managed to sort more than 17 million pieces of mail in record time. Their efforts have allowed American soldiers to reconnect with their families and loved ones back home.

Perry is adapting the script for Kevin M. Hymel’s WWII History Magazine article on the battalion.

The film’s ensemble cast includes Ebony Obsidan, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga and Jay Reeves.

Jeante Godlock, Moriah Brown, Baadja-Lyne Odums, Gregg Sulkin, Dean Norris and Susan Sarandon also star.

There are very few records of the 6888th Postal Directory Battalion. But in March 2022, President Joe Biden signed a bill giving women the Congressional Gold Medal — the highest honor Congress can bestow.

Taylor previously directed the film “Jazz and the Blues” and explained that the film made him fall in love with filmmaking.

Asked what he learned as director of the project, he said: “It told me I liked it.

“I’ve always thought of making films as a job. But the way I feel on set every day is that I love this. Directing, for me, is just because I want to tell a story. But this one makes me sit in. I’m just so happy every day. “
