PCB chief meets ACC officials in UAE, wants to discuss 2023 Asia Cup with Body chief Jay Shah: report

[ad_1]

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi met officials of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in the UAE and hopes to meet the body’s chairman Jay Shah, who is also the chairman of the BCCI ) secretary, according to sources. According to sources, Sethi’s full focus is on ensuring that the 2023 World Cup, hosted by Pakistan, does not move outside his country. Last year, Jay Shah said the game would be played at a neutral venue.

“Najam Sethi is here for the opening ceremony of the International League T20 (ILT20, the T20 league organized by the UAE Cricket Board). He met ACC officials and expressed his wish to meet ACC Chairman Jay Shah in February to discuss the 2023 Asian Cup,” a source told ANI.

At the beginning of December last year, the former head of PCB Ramiz Raja Pakistan has said it may consider withdrawing from the 2023 Asian Cup if their bid to host the tournament is canceled due to the Indian team not traveling to their country.

“It’s not that we don’t have the right to host it, it’s a plea to host it,” Ramiz was quoted by ESPNCricinfo as saying on the sidelines of the Pakistan-England Test in Rawalpindi.

“We won the rights fairly and equitably. If India doesn’t come, they won’t come. If the Asian Cup is taken from Pakistan, maybe we are the ones who quit,” he added.

Earlier in November, Ramiz Raja said Pakistan would not travel to India for the 50-plus World Cup in 2023 if India opted out of the Asian Cup in Pakistan next year.

Following Shah’s comments, the PCB said the overall impact of such announcements has the potential to divide the Asian and international cricket world and could affect Pakistan’s visit to India for the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023 and future cycles of ICC events in India from 2024-2031.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said India will host WC 2023 with all teams.

The sports minister said that India is not afraid of any threats that will prevent them from hosting the tournament. “This is an internal matter of the BCCI and it will handle this deftly. We have done nothing wrong in staging international competitions before. We have successfully hosted World Cups before and all the teams have played happily. We will be in next year Play games and all teams will play,” Thakur had said in October.

BCCI chairman Roger Binney also said that traveling to Pakistan for the 2023 Asian Cup is not a decision of the board but they will depend on the decision of the government. “That’s not our decision. We can’t say where our team has to go. If we leave the country, or other countries come here, we need permission from the government. We can’t make that decision ourselves, we have to rely on the government ,” Binny said.

Subsequently, India captain Rohit Sharma also said that the Blue Shirts will focus on the T20 World Cup and adhere to the guidelines set by the Supreme Council of Cricket in India, referring to BCCI secretary Jay Shah regarding India’s trip to Pakistan for the 2023 tournament. Asian Cup remarks.

“My focus is on the World Cup. Whatever the BCCI decides, we will accept it,” Rohit told a news conference ahead of the high-pressure clash with Pakistan.

After the Sri Lankan team was terrorized in 2009, the cricket team stopped its tour in Pakistan. The international circuit did not resume in the country until 2015. Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Australia, England and New Zealand are some of the teams that have traveled to Pakistan for the bilateral series since then.
