World News | China forces doctors to hide COVID-related death rates: report

[ad_1]

Beijing [China]Jan. 28 (ANI): To keep China’s COVID death toll low, the Chinese government has implemented rule and procedure changes in addition to censorship to force doctors to conceal COVID-related deaths or delay updating death certificates , the Voice Against Authoritarianism (VAA) reports.

Chinese authorities have also stopped adding COVID deaths that occurred outside hospitals to official statistics.

Amid mounting global pressure, China revealed that it had reported around 60,000 COVID-related deaths between early and mid-December 2022. That’s a lot considering the death toll in China has remained at around 5,000 since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the VAA, many believe the real number is much higher and accuse Beijing of underreporting. Even the World Health Organization (WHO) has urged China to provide “more detailed” data amid concerns it has underrepresented the severity of the country’s virus outbreak.

By the end of December, COVID infections in China began to surge, and hospitals began to overwhelm. Many patients could not find a bed and could only be seen sleeping on the floor. Even the funeral home and crematorium were full, and the remains were lined up for days.

However, the Chinese government has remained silent on the rising number of COVID patients.

The government stopped issuing routine health announcements, causing confusion about the COVID situation. However, Wu Zunyou, a prominent Chinese scientist and government official, posted on social media that more than 80% of China’s population has been infected with the new coronavirus.

The Chinese government has issued circulars and circulars instructing doctors not to use COVID as the cause of death, VAA reported. A doctor at a hospital in Shanghai said: “On the death certificate, we fill in one major cause of death, and two to three secondary causes of death, so we basically don’t write COVID.”

Liu Chen (pseudonym), a doctor in Liaoning Province, said that the government stipulates that the death of patients with new coronary pneumonia due to the aggravation of underlying diseases cannot be counted as new crown deaths. “T stanhat is the standard we all have to follow. So, from top to bottom, no one knows the exact death rate from COVID,” he was quoted as saying by the VAA.

In China, deaths after COVID-19 are labeled as “heart disease,” “pneumonia,” or “underlying disease,” according to complaints received.

Song Guocheng, a researcher at National Chengchi University, said the latest death toll released by Beijing was still questionable. “The information obtained from various sources and online reports is in stark contrast to the COVID figures disclosed by the CCP. This highlights that the CCP is still playing with the data and concealing the true scale of the outbreak,” Song said. (Arnie)
