No rain in UAE as faithful flock to mosques for Friday prayers

[ad_1]

United Arab Emirates – Thousands of worshipers headed to mosques for Friday prayers even as the country was battered by heavy rains from earlier in the day.

Many avoided traffic, while some walked to the mosque, braving the downpour and flooded roads that made it impossible for them to get their cars out.

“Friday prayers at home are not recommended – except in extreme cases. However, the rain on Friday was not that heavy and we were able to walk to the nearby mosque, although with some difficulty due to flooded streets,” said a resident of Al Majaz 1, Sharjah Shahbaz Ahmed said.

“The roads and sidewalks near our house were flooded and we had to walk through trapped water to reach the mosque. We had to wash our feet on arrival,” Ahmed said.

Aziz Akram, a Deira resident, was on his way back from his office and said: “I want to pray on my way home from Deira. It is about At 1.05pm, I had to reach the mosque within the next 10 minutes. However, I made a detour to Nad Al Hamar and reached a mosque without missing a prayer,” Akram said.

many people pray at home

With many roads and parking spaces in Dubai flooded, some residents prefer to perform Friday prayers at home. “Because the parking lot was flooded, we couldn’t walk to the mosque, and we couldn’t get in the car. So we all prayed at home,” said Ramizkola, a resident of Deira’s Al Maktoum Road.
