DIFC brings back sculpture park with new theme

Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC), one of Dubai’s most sought-after lifestyle destinations, transformed into an open-air art gallery for the second year in a row and brought back its highly successful DIFC Sculpture Park.

This year’s theme is “Stories Under the Gate”, and the park will be open to the public from February 7th to September 30th.

DIFC Sculpture Park offers an opportunity to get up close and personal with the work of outstanding artists from different countries and art movements.

DIFC Sculpture Park pushes the boundaries of exhibiting artwork by encouraging a variety of mediums, from traditional sculpture and painting to video art. It also provides a global platform for budding artists to share their creativity with a wider audience. In addition, DIFC already hosts a number of leading galleries and art houses from around the world, and the DIFC Sculpture Park is an innovative way of using its unique building and site as a public art space.

Arif Amiri, Chief Executive of DIFC Authority, said: “Over the years DIFC has established itself as a leading arts centre, and the reopening of DIFC Sculpture Park for the second year once again demonstrates our commitment to supporting the arts in Dubai. and cultural vision.”

“The park allows the public to experience DIFC’s art and landscape in an immersive and unique way. With the theme ‘Stories Behind the Gates’, the DIFC Sculpture Park invites viewers to step outside the boundaries of everyday life and open up to other realities and perceptions.”

During the event, well-known galleries such as Firetti Contemporary, AWC Gallery, Leila Heller Gallery, Opera Gallery, Oblong Gallery, Belvedere Art Space and Zieta Studio, as well as independent artists will present their work.

Natalie Clark’s Spirit of Habtoor and Anthony Clark’s Love Dubai will be two of the many sculptures on display that the public will have Opportunity to get a unique photo and share it on social media channels. Visitors will have a rare opportunity to admire the extraordinary works of Salvador Dali, including “The Ladies of Time” featuring Dalí’s iconic symbol, the melting clock.

Anthony James, whose work is some of the highlights of the November edition of DIFC’s Art Evening and featured in the film The Glass Onion, now streaming on Netflix, will be showing two works – 60” Icosahedron (Silver Birch Gray) and 50” Triacontahedron (Solar Black) 2020, inviting viewers to take a moment to contemplate between geometric lines. Jeff Koons’ signature hand-painted BMW Art Car THE 8 X JEFF KOONS will also be exhibited for a limited time.

Other works of art include Lorenzo Quinn’s colossal and expressive Together, previously installed in Giza, Egypt, now displayed between the DIFC Gate building and local Emirati artist Azza Al Qubaisi’s Between the Dunes, a tribute to the natural landscape The pieces for UAE use sustainable materials. Along with Sertac Tasdelen’s Muqadarat, Adonai Sebhatu’s evocative installation Digital Self forms part of a series of artworks in non-traditional media that will be projected onto screens. Emre Yusufi’s mischievous Hercules the DJ will emerge from the grass outside the Gate Building.

Spanning the area from the iconic Gate Building to Gate Street, the DIFC Sculpture Park invites visitors to see works on display both inside and outside buildings around DIFC. The event is open to the public and admission is free. School and university groups, art lovers, art centers and galleries are encouraged to visit the park.

DIFC has drawn up a year-round calendar of arts events for 2023, including the celebration of the 15th edition of DIFC Art Nights, which will take place in March and November 2023. – trade arab news agency
