Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) is urging the community to support the ‘Bridges of Kindness’ campaign to aid victims of the earthquake affecting Syria and Turkey.
The ERC is also calling on the public to volunteer to collect and pack vital medical packages, and to donate cash and in-kind to help those affected.
Volunteers are advised to register on the dedicated volunteer website and will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) and the Dubai Exhibition Center in Expo City and at Khaled al-Sharjah on 11 February from 9am to 2pm Lake to help collect and pack vital medical packages.
Donors can also donate through ERC or any of the UAE charities and humanitarian organizations participating in the campaign. The ERC’s activities are part of the UAE’s efforts to provide emergency humanitarian relief to victims of the recent earthquakes that affected Syria and Turkey. It works with the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Department of Community Development.
Yesterday, the UAE fatwa committee called for emergency relief assistance to support people affected by the devastating earthquake in parts of Turkey and Syria.
In a statement on Friday, the council said: “Based on the noble values, our Islamic principles and the UAE’s efforts in supporting humanitarian efforts, the council urges all to expedite the delivery of relief aid to those affected by the earthquake, to help alleviate their suffering and mitigate the impact of this disaster.”
The Council emphasized the need to channel donations through official entities with the support and oversight of the State to ensure that it reaches eligible beneficiaries.
