Raj & DK’s crime comedyFalzi‘ Might be reminiscent of the plot of the first episode ‘Money Heist’ – law-abiding citizens from the ‘lower’ and middle classes struggling in all spheres of their lives – this is the political and social impact of capitalism and the system it supports The result. However, it deviates from a more Indian context and fundamentally changes course.
The cast of the series is stellar with names like Amol Palekar, Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon and Shahid Kapoor.
Sunny’s (Shahid Kapoor’s) comment in the first episode, “We’re not middle class, we’re middle class,” pretty much sums up why the character goes deep into crime. While greed is the reason the character commits felonies, it is essentially the result of the fortuitous circumstances of being born impoverished.
The series depicts how talented artists suffer in different circumstances, and how the world lacks appreciation for true art.
Given its central premise of middle-class plight, the series’ most
Indian populace will relate to it. It also has a lot of comedic effect.
Vijay Sethupathi is a fiery grown-up cop who stole the show, as did the iconic Amol Palekar. Palekar’s return to OTT is a refreshing turnaround. Shahid does a great job as Sunny, and even as the lead, he keeps a low profile and avoids being too flashy. Kai Kai brilliantly played the role of antagonist Mansour, giving the drama, punch and weight the show needed.
The series is well-researched, and at times feels like an instruction manual for making counterfeit money—a premise for the show.
With a remarkable script that uses simple language to portray deep emotions, the series has the potential to keep viewers coming back for eight episodes.
Falzi Without a doubt, this is one of Raj & DK’s best work – which says a lot considering the duo’s forte and stellar track record.
