New Delhi [India]Feb 13 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will visit Fiji to attend the 12th World Hindi Conference, which is being co-hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, from February 15-17.

This will be Jaishankar’s first visit to Fiji. The visit, first conducted by an incoming ministerial delegation following the formation of a new Fiji government in December 2022, will include bilateral talks with Fiji’s new leadership.

The visit comes on the heels of Deputy Prime Minister Biman Prasad’s first high-level visit to India from 5-10 February 2023.

“EAM will visit Sydney, Australia on February 18, 2023. This will be his third visit to Australia since his first visit as EAM in February 2022. He will meet Australian leaders in Sydney. EAM will also attend The Raisina@Sydney conference will be held in Australia for the first time,” the statement read.

Earlier, Biman Prasad came to India for a five-day visit and attended the inaugural India Energy Week (IEW) 2023. He also met Oil and Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri during Energy Week.

Prasad congratulated Puri for successfully organizing the inaugural India Energy Week with a focus on decarbonisation and transition to a clean energy economy.

Discussions focused on how India can support Fiji’s energy transition through technology transfer to improve energy efficiency, develop more renewable energy and build climate-smart infrastructure.

He also participated in a high-level ministerial meeting on “Strategies for a Sustainable and Decarbonized Future”. During the discussion, he emphasized that global decarbonization action is urgently needed if the world is to truly address issues such as climate change, which is having a devastating impact on the lives and livelihoods of people in small island developing countries such as Fiji.

During his visit to India, Deputy Prime Minister Prasad was hosted by Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs.

Later, he met with Jaishankar to discuss development cooperation and exchange views on Indo-Pacific issues.

Jaishankar also said on Twitter that he will have a second meeting with Prasad at the 12th World Hindi Congress next week.
