Abu Dhabi has introduced flexible health insurance options for entrepreneurs and investors seeking to live and work in the emirate, responding to growing market demand and boosting the emirate’s status as an attractive destination.
These insurance options are offered by the Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH) in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED).
The flexible health insurance policy benefits community members, including expatriates living in the emirate working in the private sector, provided their monthly income exceeds AED5,000. It also includes investors and free business license holders, their families and employees, and the families and their workers of resident aliens who do not have employer (government or private) health insurance.
According to a statement from the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the insurance coverage can be used to cover the cost of treatment services up to Dh150,000 per year. Other plan features include: 100% emergency room coverage, 20% copayment on all outpatient treatment services and 30% copayment on medications. The plan also offers the possibility to upgrade coverage based on patient needs.
Dr Mariam Al Mazrouei, Executive Director, Healthcare Payments Department, Abu Dhabi Ministry of Health, said: “The insurance policy was launched to provide health insurance schemes to increase the competitiveness of the sector while attracting private sector businesses. This is in light of Abu Dhabi’s advanced infrastructure and incentives, Abu Dhabi is the destination of choice for those looking to grow their business in various sectors.”
Companies or individuals planning to enroll in a “flexible health insurance” policy must contact their health insurance company for more details when their current health insurance policy is about to expire, and apply for “flexible health insurance” if they meet the eligibility criteria, DoH said .
