Japanese streamer U – Next Updated its content handling Warner Discoveryunder which it will continue to be the SVOD streaming home for HBO shows in Japan.
The deal includes exclusive SVOD content rights for new and returning series from HBO, HBO Original and HBO Max Original, as well as more than 2,300 episodes of library content.

The HBO series covered by the agreement include Dragon House, the last of us and succession; and returning HBO Original and HBO Max Original series such as True Detective: Kingdom of the Night, Championship Moment: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty and that’s all…; and the upcoming series Idol, white house plumberand love and death.
Deal also includes an exclusive Japan premiere for Steven Soderbergh full circle.
Tenshin Tsutsumi, CEO of U-Next, said: “The collaboration with Warner Bros Discovery began in April 2021 as a strategic partnership with great results.
“We’ve been able to deliver high-quality titles from HBO and HBO Max (the pinnacle of American entertainment) to viewers as quickly as possible, and we think the number of opportunities for people to engage with our service through these titles has also increased.”
Warner Bros. Discovery has not launched its HBO Max platform in Asia so far, but is said to be considering options for the region. Last week, the company announced the renewal of its HBO content deal with Australian pay-TV operator and streamer Foxtel.
U-Next recently announced that it will merge with Premium Platform Japan, the owner of the Paravi streaming platform. The combined platform will have approximately 3.7 million subscribers. Japanese broadcaster TBS and TV Tokyo are major shareholders in Premium Platform Japan.
