Magical time, very special time of year…
The first day of Ramadan this year is expected to be March 23. According to Ibrahim Al JarwanChairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society.
When does Eid start?
The holy month usually lasts 29 to 30 days, which makes Eid al-Fitr fall on or around Friday 21 April 2023. The reason that exact dates in the Gregorian calendar cannot be calculated in advance is that the Islamic year follows the lunar cycle, itself based in part on the observation of certain verifiable criteria in the phases of the moon.
If Friday 21 April is indeed the first day of Eid al-Fitr, it looks like it will be a four-day weekend for those adopting the new UAE weekend, with residents in the public and private sectors on April 22 Saturday and Sunday April 23rd and Monday April 24th are closed. Work will resume on Tuesday, April 25, subject to confirmation from the UAE government.
Where to watch Eid fireworks in Abu Dhabi 2023?
Abu Dhabi needs no excuses to launch sky-high pyrotechnics into low-Earth orbit, tearing the space above into fractal rainbow ribbons. But Eid al-Fitr is one of the most important times of the year for Muslims all over the world, offering a very good Eid al-Fitr. We’ve rounded up all the showcases confirmed so far as well as the ones that are highly likely (all are likely to start at 9pm unless otherwise stated).
comfirmed
Yas Bay
One of Abu Dhabi’s most important new waterfront entertainment districts will once again light up the skies for Eid, following NYE’s epic pyrotechnic display. All night entertainment on the cards, plus beachfrontof Cafes, bars and restaurants provide the perfect habitat for all Sky Pyros. But wait. there are more. Yas Bay will host a series of special events and entertainment experiences throughout the holiday season, including a gala concert with Arab recording stars at the Etihad Arena the day after Eid.
Abu Dhabi Corniche
Ah, this sky disco dame may have a tower wall in front of it, but a) it offers a lot of awesome perches from high to view the displays, and b) those color bursts are high enough to make the displays visible from above Most of the business district of the city.
Ain Haza Stadium
This free, family-friendly event usually offers comfortable seating to enjoy the spectacular breathtaking views of this garden city.
Madinat Zayed Public Park
Al Dhafra has some beautiful cinematic vistas, but the dunes will get an extra dose of neon at this year’s NYE, with a dizzying firework display blooming over the desert.
Al Malfa Beach
This is the only developed beach in the Al Dhafra area and will be the base for some amazing fireworks at this particularly family-friendly time of year.
Other Eid celebrations
this Ministry of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT) also said that Al Ain and Al Dhafra will also host Eid concerts.
Other Eid public holiday events will be held at Manarat Al Saadiyat (which will also host its popular Ramadan Arcade pop-up during Ramadan) and Qasr Al Hosn. The Palace Museum in Al Ain will host a traditional Al Ayyala and Al Razfa performance. The DCT also confirmed celebrations at Al Ain Oasis and Qasr Al Muwaiji.
unconfirmed fireworks but possible
South Plaza, Al Maryah Island
Al Maryah Island has also recently become the epicenter of seaside hustle and bustle, with the canon eruption of the holy month giving way to the sound of fireworks and instead echoing through the island’s tower canyons. There are also some really good restaurants on Al Maryah Island where you can sit and enjoy the show.
Mandarin Oriental, Emirates Palace
As the name suggests, Emirates Palace really likes to celebrate Gatsby-level prosperity. Their New Year’s Eve party has been huge and we’re praying it continues into Eid 2023.
saadiyat i.
Often held at the ultra-sophisticated shoreline haunt of Saadiyat Beach Club, desert island displays are often more low-key (with a touch of local wildlife) but no less elegant. We’re waiting to hear if there will be more of this this Eid.
