Art Springs expands into Malvern’s entertainment precinct

The Hot Springs Cultural Alliance announced Tuesday that it will expand the two-day Art Springs Festival to include the Malvern Avenue entertainment district during the opening weekend of the 10-day Art and Parks: Art and Soul Festival.

This marks the second year in a row that Art Springs has expanded its space to make room for more arts and cultural programming, according to a release.

The 2023 festival will continue to host the Art Village and Art Springs Stage at Hill Wheatley Plaza, but will now expand the new Arts Interactive Zone to the entertainment precinct on Malvern Avenue between Bridge Street and Spring Street.

Art Springs, a free event, will be open to the public Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30, offering “family-friendly programming for all ages,” according to a press release.

“Visitors to the Art Springs Hill Wheatley Plaza section can continue to enjoy the Fine Art Village, which features more than 30 artist booths selling original works from some of Hot Springs’ most cherished artists, as well as artists from across the region,” the release said. explain.

The Art Springs Stage will host a full two-day program including the Glover Award for Outstanding Songwriting and lead band Brave Combo.

Brave Combo will be performing live at the Art Springs Stage on Saturday, April 29 at 7pm

According to a biography provided by HSACA, Brave Combo says it is a Denton, Texas quintet that “perfected a world music mix that included salsa, meringue, rock, cumbia, concanto, polka, zeddy Co, classical, cha-cha, blues and more. They are America’s premier dance band, a joyful, swinging, rhythmic tour of the globe.”

The band has performed for over 30 years and appeared as a comic book character on “The Simpsons.”

Art Interactive will provide a larger area of ​​the Hot Springs Renaissance Faire with the entertainment area, including its large pirate ship, children’s book giveaways for the love of the literary arts, an interactive storytime with Lanie Carlson, sponsored by the Garland County Library and Emergent Arts, and this year’s Featured event “Under Pressure” – woodblock printing with a roller.

“‘Under Pressure’, launched by Hot Springs-based wholesale Japanese paper and ink company Aitoh, is a woodblock printing event in which artists will ink and print carved wooden blocks onto Japanese paper using a 2-ton pressure roller, ’ said the press release.

Ink Creations will be on display at Emergent Arts’ Circle Gallery through May 5.

Art Springs will continue to host the Chalk Walk Sidewalk Chalk Competition, where children in the area can work in teams or individually to create sidewalk chalk art. The competition kicks off early in the morning on Saturday, April 29, with the awards presentation taking place on the Art Springs Stage at noon that day. The winning categories are divided by age group and selected by an independent jury.
