Tributes paid to a ‘distinguished’ teacher and athlete who was killed by a car in the United Arab Emirates.
Caina Healey, 35, of Co delhihe was cycling to work in Al Taweelah, Abu Dhabi, when the tragedy struck.
Emergency services were called to the scene but sadly the teacher was pronounced dead.
Ms Healey is a PE teacher at Amity International School and principal Adrian Frost was one of the first to pay tribute to the young woman.
“Caina has had a huge impact on the lives of her students and colleagues,” he told The Independent.
“Many of her students attribute their accomplishments, character and values ​​to the guidance and guidance they received from her.”
Ms Healey is understood to have been living in the UAE for the past few years.
The UAE Triathlon Federation confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement, saying she was a “tenacious competitor who always pushed herself to the limit and inspired others to do the same.”
They wrote: “Caina recently finished 3rd in the Bahrain Half Triathlon, 1st in the Muscat Half Triathlon Relay and is eligible to represent the UAE team in the 2023 Half Triathlon Three World Championships.
“Caina was an outstanding educator who impacted the lives of many students and her passing is a great loss to Amity International School and the community.”
They added: “Her passion and dedication to education is reflected in the way she motivates and supports her pupils, and she often takes the time to go above and beyond herself freely. Her contribution to the school’s sports program is invaluable.
“It is sad to think that such a kind and generous man would leave us so unexpectedly.”
