Thomas Nesbitt (Abu Dhabi Golf Club) shot 70 under in the second round for a 36-hole total of 142 under at the 2023 Robert Locke Abu Dhabi Championships in Abu Dhabi 5 strokes ahead of Dhabi Golf Club in the Dhabi Golf Championship.
The 54-hole event is associated with the Robert Rock Junior Golf Tour and is a qualifying event for the R&A-backed World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
Nesbitt birdied three of the front nine holes for a 35. More birdies and two bogeys followed on Nos. 12, 16 and 18 for a 70.
16th birthday
Nesbitt celebrated his 16th birthday last Sunday and, finishing his round, the two-time current ADGC club champion said: “I haven’t had my best season. I’ve had a lot of top ten and top two. Ten, but never really competed. I played really well today, off the tee off well, hit the ball in the right place, made some good putts. The match of the day came from 18-year-old Jhun Gurdenli, who is part of Turkey’s national golf team, with a +2 handicap at Kemer Golf and Country Club outside Istanbul. He shot a three-under 69 for a total of 150.
In the Girls Under 18 category, Hannah Allen (Emirates Golf Club) shot a second-round par 72, matching her first-round 77, for a four-shot lead going into tomorrow’s final round. Hannah shot a 36 with two nines, including an impressive five birdies.
In the under-16 men’s group, 13-year-old Alexander Rushika (Jumeirah Golf Estate) shot two rounds of 76 and 75, with a total score of 151 in 36 holes and a 4-stroke lead on the green tee.
