LOS ANGELES (AP) — Actor Shannen Doherty of the hit shows “Glamour” and “Beverly Hills, 90210” has filed for divorce from her husband Kurt Iswarienko after 11 years of marriage, her representative said.
“Divorce is the last thing Shannen wants,” publicist Leslie Sloane said in an emailed statement Saturday. “Unfortunately, she felt she had no choice.”
In early 2020, Doherty, 52, announced that she was battling a recurrence of stage 4 breast cancer, calling it a “bitter pill to swallow.”
“I definitely have days where I’m like, ‘Why me?’ And then I go, ‘Well, why not me? Who else? Who else deserves this besides me? None of us,” Dougherty told “Good Morning America”.
The actor first revealed she had breast cancer in 2015 and has documented her battle with the disease on social media.
Dougherty made no mention of the divorce progress on Instagram, but wrote in a post on Friday: “The only people who deserve to be in your life are those who treat you with love, kindness and total respect.”
In October 2021, a federal jury in Los Angeles awarded Doherty $6.3 million in a lawsuit alleging that her insurer, State Farm, failed to pay adequately for damage to her home during the 2018 California wildfires . The jury found the failure to pay policy benefits for Doherty’s Malibu home “unreasonable and without good cause.”
In her statement, Doherty’s publicist, Sloane, suggested contacting Iswarienko’s agent, who she identified as Collier Grimm, for details. Green did not immediately respond to a message for comment.
