Dubai is poised to host this year’s premier energy storage forum, held in preparation for the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) in November.
The Energy Storage Forum 2023, to be held at the Sofitel Jumeirah Beach Residences from 23 May to 25 May 2023, will be a major milestone in driving the global energy storage infrastructure resilience agenda.
The forum’s theme is “Advancing the Energy Transition Pathway at COP28” and is jointly organized by the Gulf Cooperation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) and the independent non-profit Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
It will happen as the world continues to undergo a major shift towards a decarbonized future and the market outlook for battery energy storage systems in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) is positive.
According to a report published by Mordor Intelligence, the MEA market will grow at a CAGR of over 5.2% during the period 2023-2028.
In response to the challenges and opportunities of the world’s transition to a decarbonized world, this high-level international event will bring together senior contingents from the Middle East and different regions of the world.
Participants will include power system operators, energy storage developers, researchers, service providers and more.
Representatives from utilities companies in the GCC will be high-profile attendees.
During the event, they will discuss the current state of energy storage technology and how it can support the transformation of the electricity sector to achieve sustainability and decarbonization in the region.

Historically, pumped storage hydro has been the most prevalent form of energy storage. While it’s still important, new forms of energy storage, especially lithium-ion batteries, have dramatically reduced cost and performance, opening up many new, site-specific opportunities for energy storage.
With steady innovation, battery storage for stationary power systems is expected to increase from an annual deployment rate of 5.5 GW in 2020 to 26.2 GW in 2025.
With the increasing popularity and advancement of lithium-ion battery storage technology, new energy storage technologies are emerging, driven by the need for enhanced safety, long life, and a rich and environmentally responsible supply chain.
The three-day forum will address these topics and more in insightful and interactive panel discussions and technical workshops on the fundamentals driving the energy transition and energy storage.
Additionally, the Energy Storage Forum 2023 will offer international participants a unique opportunity to network and build partnerships with industry leaders, like-minded peers and other stakeholders in the energy sector.
