SECANE – Delco Day 8, presented by Delco Live, is scheduled for Saturday, June 10th at JT Brewski’s, 510 Oak Ave., Secane.
The 12-hour event will run from 2pm Saturday to 2am Sunday. This year’s event is sponsored by the BHCU Credit Union.
Proceeds will also benefit the HEADstrong Foundation, a charity born and based in Delaware County that provides free housing for cancer patients seeking treatment in the tri-state area.
Through HEADstrong, proceeds from the event will also go to Theresa Daniels, a Ridley High School teacher and mother of four who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and Jim Sannino, a Delaware County resident battling non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma .
This year’s annual Delco Day will prove bigger and better than ever with 12 bands and solo acts including Let There Be Rock School, Loaded, Electric Furbee, Buzzkill, Mike Barclay, Vilebred, Galway Guild, Say I Won ‘t, Berserker, etc.
Additionally, the festivities will include two Delco Family Feud games, one at 4:30 pm and the other at midnight. The Delco Live team went around and asked 100 Delco residents a series of questions to fill out the survey and have fun.
The Delco Live team will also hold their annual “swearing in” event for non-native Delconians at 6:10 p.m. Those who weren’t born and raised in Delaware County, but have since moved there or married someone there, will get good news — taking the oath to become an official Delconian, naturally. Those who take the oath of office will receive a small flag.
Founded in 2016, Delco Day is held annually by the Delco Live team to celebrate all things Delco, raise money for a local charity or cause, and foster a hometown spirit with fun activities.
Delco Live produces a popular weekly podcast from its studio in Secane on a variety of topics, often presented in a light-hearted, humorous and unique way, talking about local trends, current events as well as news and relevant content for the region locals.
The Delco Live team includes Chris “Hollywood” Holbrook, “Big Al” Zaffiri, Chris “Spaz” Spadaro, Kerri Kennedy and Steve Profitt.
June 10, or 6/10, was chosen as official Delco Day because 610 is the main area code for Delaware County.
For the past several years, June 10 has been designated Delco Day by the state through the Harrisburg Resolution.
Celebrations for the event were originally held in Upper Darby, but have since moved to taverns in Morton, Prospect Park and now Seika.
Gate entry is $6.10. All are welcome to come out and celebrate their Delco pride.

Historic Newtown Square Day Saturday with activities for kids and adults
The 27th Annual Historic Newtown Square Day will be held on Saturday, June 3rd from 10am to 4pm at 1742 Square Tavern, Goshen Road and Route 252, Newtown Square.
Families are welcome to enjoy Revolutionary War camps and activities including Colonial Military Reenactments, Lenni Lenape Native Americans, Beekeeping, Live Music at Last Chance, Colonial Storytellers, Basket Weaving, Quill and Pen Demonstrations, Antique Cars, Activities for Kids, Art auction etc. All are welcome.
Then head to seven other attractions that will be open to tours, including the House of the Paper Mill, The Octagon School, the Train and Tramway Museum, Bartram Covered Bridge, Old St. David’s Church, Garrett Williamson Building and the Farm to Meet Friends.
12:30pm The trail and greenway walk from the Square Tavern to the Friends Meeting House will take place at 12:30pm with a guided tour of the Friends Meeting.
Paper Mill House will feature Connie Minnich, who will demonstrate scissor cutting and silhouettes, as well as folk art exhibits and visitor art projects for all ages. Square Tavern will provide maps of all locations.

Colonial Plantation hosts workshops for homebrewers and beer lovers
Delaware Valley homebrewers and beer lovers are invited to be a member of Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation in Edgemont Township for an in-depth Colonial Brewing Workshop on Saturday, June 10th from 10am-4pm
Colonial Brewer Michael Carver will share his extensive knowledge of 18th century beer production.
The $100 class will give participants hands-on experience taking home the fruits of their work fermented into spruce beer wort. It was this beer that saved many 18th-century expeditions to the far north and helped them avoid scurvy and other diseases.
The workshop will be held off the farm, so participants should dress comfortably for the weather. Everyone must be at least 21 years old to attend the workshop. Refreshments will be served.registered at https://form.jotform.com/230644428366156.
Over 20 local artists exhibit at Swarthmore Borough Hall in June
The June Art Show at Swarthmore Borough Hall is the 27th annual art show celebrating Swarthmore artists and photographers groups, featuring more than 20 local artists across a variety of artistic styles and mediums.
The exhibition, on view June 2-29, includes Richard Robinson, Adriana Borgia, Darlene Walling, Charlie Parker, Afif Hannah, Pete Prohn, Paul Woolf, Sydney Evans, Danielle Callahan, Megan Lee Winger, Kathy Anderson, Jessica Graae, Betty Wallace, Jessica Do NoHo, Andrea Bruno, Colleen McCarthy, Jenny Lowen, Kim Scott, Addie Woolf, Skip Gosnell, Martha Perkins and Michelle Southworth.
The opening reception will be on Friday, June 2nd from 6pm to 8pm. The event is free.
Anyone wandering around town on First Fridays is encouraged to stop by the Borough Hall to meet the artists and enjoy free wine and hors d’oeuvres.

Coalition of Women Voters proposes plan on health care fraud
The Central Delaware Coalition of Women Voters will present reporter Jodine Mayberry, who will host a program on the real and hidden costs of healthcare fraud in America on Friday, June 2 at noon via Zoom.
Mayberry will take participants on a virtual tour of the largest, costliest and most harmful healthcare fraud in recent years and explain the real and hidden costs of fraudulent Medicare, Medicaid, private insurers, and patients and beneficiaries themselves.
She will explain how people can protect themselves from healthcare fraud and share important and helpful resources.
For eight years, Mayberry has handled federal and state law enforcement prosecutions of healthcare fraud for Westlaw, the nation’s largest legal publisher.
