His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, today reviewed the progress of key development projects in Hatta during his visit to the region.
The projects reviewed by His Highness form part of the first two phases of Hatta’s overall development plan under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Launched, and followed up by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.
Sheikh Ahmed said the Hatta project is part of Dubai’s ambitious development plan, formulated within the framework of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s vision for the development of the emirate. Developed to the highest global standards of excellence, these projects aim to enhance services for UAE citizens, residents and visitors, and improve the quality of life at all levels of society.
Sheikh Ahmed commended the efforts of the entities involved in the development plan and highlighted the leadership’s commitment to delivering excellence to the people of Hatta.
Sheikh Ahmed was accompanied by Mattar Al Tayer, Dubai Commissioner for Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Wellbeing Pillar and Chairman of the Supreme Council Overseeing Hatta Development; Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer; Major General Mohamed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General, General Directorate of Residence and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai; Dawood Al Hajri, Director General, Dubai Municipality; Dr. Amer Sharif, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Academic Health and some senior officials.
During his visit, Sheikh Ahmed visited the Hatta border crossing, which clears and exits 350,000 travelers every month.
His Highness was briefed on the initiatives being taken by the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai to improve the experience of travelers at border crossings.
His Highness visited the city of Hatta, where he reviewed the progress of the projects being implemented as part of the Hatta Master Development Plan.
He was briefed on the development of the archaeological site of Hatta and their inscription by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on the Tentative List of World Heritage Sites.
His Highness also visited Hatta Hospital to review the progress of the expansion project.
He also briefed him on the hospital’s key achievements, including its collaboration with the Noor Dubai Foundation as part of a national campaign to prevent blindness and visual impairment.
His Highness then visited Hatta Heritage Village and Sharia Farms, which house the oldest charitable endowment in the history of the UAE, dating back 130 years.
Islamic farms include ancient farms that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Sheikh Ahmed later visited a private school in Hatta with 500 students.
His Highness also visited the Hatta Dam, where he was briefed on the ongoing construction of the DEWA hydroelectric power plant. The Hatta pumped storage power plant, the first of its kind in the GCC, will have a production capacity of 250 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 1,500 MWh.
