Ajman: Two people were killed and three were injured in an explosion at a petroleum derivative fuel tank at the factory of a fuel trading company in the Al Jurf industrial zone in Ajman this morning, police said.

Ajman Police Commander-in-Chief Major General Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi said the police operations room received a report at 11am that a “diesel tank” had exploded.

spark enters the tank

When officials arrived at the scene, they found that two workers had performed welding work on the top of the tank, causing the tank to explode as sparks flew into the tank. The explosion killed two Asian workers and injured three others as debris from the exploded fuel tank cap flew.

Major General Al Nuaimi said the explosion was due to non-compliance with security and safety requirements and the lack of the necessary civil defense permits to protect such facilities that handle fuel and petroleum derivatives.

State Ambulance, Civil Defense and Traffic Patrol were called in to take the necessary measures and transfer those affected by the incident to hospital.
