ABU DHABI, 6th June, 2023 (WAM) — The Emirates Water and Electricity Company, EWEC, has welcomed faculty, staff and students from the University of Pennsylvania, USA, to Al Noor Abu Dhabi, one of the largest single-site solar projects in the world. After entering the headquarters of EWEC.

The visit to EWEC Headquarters and the Abu Dhabi Al Noor Tour are organized by the Abu Dhabi Administrative Office (ADEO). EWEC Asset Management Executive Director Mark Hedges led the tour of Noor Abu Dhabi together with EWEC Head of Power Operations Control Omar Al Ameri and representatives from Noor Abu Dhabi owner and operator Sweihan PV Power Company (PJSC).

During the tour, the delegation learned about solar energy’s role in accelerating the country’s energy transition and decarbonizing the energy sector, in addition to hearing about EWEC’s plans to increase its total solar power generation capacity from around 1 gigawatt (GW) in 2023 to 7.3 Giva’s plan. by 2030.

Following the briefing and an open question-and-answer session, the delegation then visited the 8-square-kilometre Solar Park, which has 3.2 million solar panels and can generate approximately 1GW (AC) of electricity, enough to power 90,000 households. electricity demand.

During a visit to EWEC headquarters, the delegation learned about the company’s strategic investments in current and upcoming renewable energy projects, which play a vital role in supporting the UAE’s sustainable development and economic goals.

EWEC’s goal is to reduce the average carbon intensity of electricity generation from 0.33 kilograms per kilowatt-hour (kg/kWh) in 2019 to an estimated 0.19 kg/kWh by 2029. EWEC also forecasts that more than 90 percent of its water production will come from reverse osmosis desalination plants by 2030, and its water production discharge intensity is expected to drop from 11.5 kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m3) Estimated 1.4kg/m3.
