Multiply Group helps remove 100,000 pounds of plastic from oceans

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi-based investment holding company Multiply Group is partnering with US-based 4ocean to offset more than 100,000 pounds (45,359 kilograms) of plastic waste and contribute to cleaning up oceans and coastlines.

As part of its ‘Clean up the Oceans’ initiative, the Multiply Group announced the collaboration on World Oceans Day, highlighting a shared commitment to the global environmental agenda, directly aligned with themes and objectives to be discussed at the 28th session of the UNFCCC (COP28) Parties.

The presence of plastic in the ocean has grown exponentially, and plastic pollution remains one of the leading causes of marine species extinction, human and animal health problems, and the destruction of marine ecosystems.

Lama Al Bachir, Director of Strategy and Growth at Multiply Group, said of the partnership: “Currently, plastic litter accounts for 80% of all ocean pollution, with around 80 to 10 million tonnes of plastic ending up in the ocean every year, impacting marine life and human health. On World Oceans Day, as part of our corporate social responsibility efforts in the Year of Sustainability, Multiply Group is partnering with 4ocean to pull 100,000 pounds of plastic from the ocean and play our part in protecting the largest ecosystem on Earth .”

“We’re delighted to see the clean seas movement gain international attention and are delighted to partner with the Multiply Group to help clean up the world’s oceans,” said 4ocean CEO and Co-Founder Alex Schulze. “New partnerships like this are how we can maximize our reach around the world.”

The Multiply Group recognizes that addressing marine pollution requires holistic solutions, including prevention and clean-up of coasts and oceans. Earlier this year, a group of dedicated employees from the Multiply Group and its subsidiaries volunteered to clean up a section of Abu Dhabi’s coastal shoreline in Al Nouf, successfully collecting 420 pounds of plastic waste. — trade arab news agency
