Despite announcements of money and other forms of help by the government and celebrities, there are still some Indians who think they are still victims wherever they are, like the 28-year-old Indian expatriate in Abu Dhabi who recently won the lottery AED 20,000 (Rs 4,48885).

He has pledged to donate a portion of his winnings to the victims of the horrific train accident in Balasore, Odisha on June 2.

Sahajan Mohammad, a native of Jaspur, Odisha, works as a chef at a hotel in Abu Dhabi and earns about Dh2,000 a month, according to the Khalij Times.

Mohammad, who has been trying his luck in various sweepstakes for years, played Dream Island’s scratch card game and won on June 7.

Speaking about the deadly three-train collision, Mohammad told Khaleej Times that he would help those in the village who were injured in the tragedy.

“Several people in my local area were injured in this accident. I will help the affected people in my village first,” he said.

The June 2 accident, which injured more than 1,000 people, has been described as India’s worst railway accident in two decades.

The accident involved the Bangalore-Howrah Express, Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a freight train which happened near Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore, about 250 km south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar, June 2 at around 7pm.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the incident.
